Interested in travel, whether cross-country or trans-Atlantic? Does exploring new cultures, foods, and languages sound exciting to you? If so, you can have access to some amazing opportunities right here in La Cañada. Sister Cities Youth Group is a local organization that connects students in LC with a partner, or “sister city,” in a foreign country. Any student who either lives or goes to school within the city is welcome to join. It’s an incredible opportunity to travel, build friendships, and have fun!
Sister Cities Youth Group President Rachel Hwang (12) has taken full advantage of leadership opportunities over her three years in the program, attending summer programs at the University of Denver and Rice University. She has “met so many fascinating people from around the world” at the same time as she learned about business management, community service, and global events.
Audrey Chen (12) of the JPL Space Academy, on the other hand, took the plunge and travelled abroad to Spain this summer, fully immersing herself in Spanish culture.
“I think it’s just really different reading about something or learning about something in a class [versus] actually going out and seeing it for yourself,” said Audrey.
If you want to “see it for yourself,” the first gathering will be on October 27th from 4-5:30 at the La Cañada Community Center. Snacks, activities, and information about the organization will be offered! For further updates, follow @lcfsistercitiesyg on Instagram. We would love to have you!
