In the RACC College Mini Fair, students at La Cañada High School explored the variety of options available in their paths during sixth period on October 5th. In order to provide students with this opportunity, The Regional Admission Counselors of California (RACC) collaborated with the LCHS Counseling Department to expose students to universities they may not have been aware of.
A vast array of colleges including Syracuse University, Washington State University, The University of Iowa, The American University of Rome, Boise State University, Northern Arizona University, Oregon State University, College of Saint Benedict, Purdue University, and High Point University sent admission counselors to inform students about the unique benefits of each college. Held in the LCHS Quad area in front of the North Gym, the event attracted students with numerous exhibits displaying information about each participating college. They were greeted by representatives that eagerly explained majors and scholarships available along with other special features that made their university unique.
Assistant Principal Kip Glazer elaborated further on the purpose of this fair. She said, “We wanted to promote college-going culture and expose students to universities they may have not been aware of. This program is sponsored by The Regional Admission Counselors of California, which has a myriad of universities that travel together to maximize resources and exposure to communities not aware of this amazing opportunity.”
Students were impressed with the hands-on experience that helped them learn about options they can pursue which they previously weren’t informed of.
Stephanie Kiang (11) was very inspired by the useful information distributed in this fair and said “I thought it was a good resource for people to realize what their options are.”
Another student at the fair, Amanda Laus (12), agreed that “It encouraged people to discover colleges that they might not have previously considered.”
The RACC College Mini Fair is one of the many ways our school’s counseling department has been providing opportunities for students to broaden their horizons and learn more about colleges.
