As if playing the lead in Advanced Theater’s upcoming production of “Macbeth,” performing in the choir as Chamber Singers president, and serving as Vice President for the Comedy Sportz team weren’t enough, Anthony Crehan has spent his senior year taking on a demanding academic course load and preparing to star as Jean Valjean in this spring’s musical production of Les Miserables.
As someone with so much eloquence, thoughtfulness, and a genuine passion for performing, it is no surprise that his favorite high school experiences have been being in the theater and choir.
“Choir has such a fantastic sense of community. You make great friends and being able to sing more classical music and understand complex chord structures is super cool,” Anthony said. “Theater is just what I love doing. Becoming someone else for two hours on stage is something very freeing.”
Anthony developed this love for performing as a child, kicking off his acting career at age eight with community theater productions and commercials. He was even featured on the video game Fallout: New Vegas. Even though he decided to stop doing commercials to focus on school, he still enjoys the many opportunities at LCHS. His favorite experiences have been singing for the Pope in Italy and performing in the school musicals.
“The musical is one of the biggest productions we do. Just being out there and being a part of it has been spectacular,” Anthony said. “There are some many moving parts. Even though it’s not professional, its very very good for high school drama.”
After receiving a college education, Anthony hopes to return to the entertainment industry as an actor, writer, or director.
“I can’t imagine myself with an office job. I’d rather be a starving actor than a well-paid politician,” he commented.
Given his intelligence and passion for what he does, there is no question that his upcoming performance as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables will be one of Anthony’s many fantastic performances put on in the future.
