Happy Strays is a nonprofit Cat Rescue held in La Canada’s Petco, and it’s main founders are Jan Magnuson, Lynn Dannhausen, and Michele Dannhausen, who partner along with other foster families to give the cats a place to stay until they are adopted. In addition to fostering the cats, these women work to give them their proper vaccinations and medical treatments with the help of donations.
The rescue has many volunteers, mostly teens who attend the Saturday adoption events and help the cats get to know Petco’s customers and anyone else who might stop by. The volunteers along with the founders make sure that each cat has a food and water bowl and a clean litter box, always providing a happy and healthy environment for the animals.
There are many adult cats currently up for adoption, each one with a unique and playful personality. During “kitten season,” the fosters will bring in kittens who have grown old enough to be adopted.
For people who already have dogs or children, there are cats that will get along with both.
If you are unable to adopt, it is always a good idea to foster the cats in order to give them a temporary home until they have found their permanent one. If you can’t foster, donations (whether in the form of money or supplies) are always helpful and welcome.
The founders have a strict indoors-only policy for adopting their cats, wanting to keep them safe from the danger of everyday life like busy roads and vicious wildlife.
If you’re looking for a new furry companion in your home, stop by the Petco next to Trader Joe’s on Saturdays from 11:30 to 3:30. If you’re lucky, you may stumble upon the lovable duo of Michaelangelo and Raphael, two cats who are currently up for adoption at HappyStrays.
