Many students claim they’d never want to return to their former high school after they graduate. This isn’t the case for Andrea Stassi, our new French teacher. Ms. Stassi teaches French 2 and French 4 honors, along with two classes for the middle school, 7th grade journalism and 8th grade history.
“I love La Cañada. I lived here before and it’s great to be back. All the faculty are really supportive and kind,” she said.
Back when she attended LCHS, Ms. Stassi was heavily involved in the student newspaper and the yearbook. She had a natural inclination towards French class that eventually lead her to consider teaching as a career path.
Ms. Stassi just got her masters degree in teaching from Loyola Marymount University. Prior to receiving her masters, she lived and studied in France for 10 years, where she went to the American University of Paris and double majored in psychology and French. Ms. Stassi returned to La Canada mainly to be closer to her family.
Regarding her teaching philosophy, Stassi refers to the quote by Anatole France stating that “nine tenths of education is encouragement.”
“I really want to make sure that students feel my classroom is comfortable and safe, and that everyone has access to the same learning materials,” she stated.
So far, Ms. Stassi appears to be making a positive impression on students.
“She seems to be really dedicated to teaching and it’s a really enjoyable class environment for me,” said Stephanie Hwang (11).
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Stassi enjoys reading and traveling. Lately, she’s been trying to go to more new restaurants in her free time.
We’re happy to have Ms. Stassi joining us this year, so let’s all be sure to give her a warm welcome!
