On December 12th, the La Cañada High School instrumental program had their annual winter concert. The instrumental program includes the orchestra, symphonic and jazz band, as well as an incorporation of choral music.
“I think it went really well,¨ said Mr. Stone, who directed the event alongside Mrs. Munday. ¨The kids had fun with the music and the audience seemed to enjoy it as well.”
The band performed variations on classic holiday pieces such as an “American Bell Carol,” “A Christmas Festival,” and “We Three Kings.”
“Everyone looks forward to the winter concert,” said Josiah Smyth (10). “We get to play really fun pieces, like some excerpts from the Polar Express.”
“I thought that it was really cool that we got to play with the band,” said Ayla Nappi (10). “Usually we just play on our own, but adding winds gave the music a new, more interesting sound.”
The concert also featured some soloists, such as Bela Echternach (12).
“I used to be really nervous about soloing, but I’ve learned to enjoy it,” Bela said, “Jazz is always really fun.”
Safe to say, the Winter Spectacular lived up to its name.
