On Friday, September 22, the choir presented their annual Pops Scholarship Concert. As always, the auditorium was packed with students and parents who came to support the choir program.
“The money earned from this concert goes directly into the collective fund, which is to help supply money for students who need financial aid for many activities that the choir organizes,” soprano chamber singer Shalini Pullarkat (11) explained. Last year, students were able to gain support for their trip to Italy with the money that they’ve earned from the previous scholarship concert.
Pops Concert remains one of the events that students look forward to the most. Audience member Nicole Johnson (11) said, “I am always surprised at how talented people are at our school when I attend these choir concerts. I especially like the pops concerts because it’s fun listening to how creatively they change the songs that I know of.”
Beautiful songs filled the room as Shalini Pullarkat (11) sang “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan, aweing the audience with her voice. Additionally, adorable couple Brandon Lee (10) and Maggie MacKenzie (10) performed “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor, and Sang Min Lee and Lisa Son covered “Falling Slowly” by Glen Hansard.
Shalini commented, “Yes, I’d definitely do another solo. I loved the whole experience. To be honest, I practiced more on playing my piano accompaniment than on my singing. So I was practicing that for a good couple of weeks before the show.”
That night, the choir department was able to show 36 incredible acts, reminding our community of the diverse talents that our students have. In addition, this concert made everyone excited for the next pops concert, to be held on Friday, May 4 at the LCHS Auditorium. Make sure to mark your calendars!
